A highly significant and inspiring meeting was held with Prof. Dr. Faisal Dar, Dean, CEO and Consultant in Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute & Research Centre (PKLI&RC), Lahore. Recognised as a pioneer of liver transplantation in Pakistan, Prof. Faisal Dar has made an exceptional contribution to advancing complex transplant and hepatobiliary surgery in the country.
The meeting provided an excellent platform to discuss mutual collaboration between Pakistani and UK doctors, with particular emphasis on developing structured opportunities for training, teaching, mentorship, fellowships and professional knowledge exchange. The importance of creating pathways through which doctors from Pakistan can benefit from UK expertise, while UK-based doctors can also engage with specialist centres and experienced teams in Pakistan, was discussed in depth.
Particular attention was given to capacity building, postgraduate education, surgical training, research collaboration and exchange programmes, with the shared objective of strengthening professional development on both sides. The potential for collaboration involving senior specialists, trainees and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals was also explored.
The discussion reflected a shared vision of building a sustainable bridge between the UK and Pakistan, bringing together expertise, experience and resources to create meaningful opportunities for the next generation of doctors.
This was more than a professional meeting—it was a conversation about partnership, education, innovation and the future of healthcare, with a strong commitment to helping doctors learn from one another and ultimately improving patient care in both countries.
Together, we can connect expertise across borders, create opportunities for doctors and build a stronger future for healthcare in Pakistan and the UK.
