NODFA continues to play an active role in raising important issues affecting doctors, their families and communities both in the UK and internationally. In a highly productive and meaningful meeting with Members of Parliament, local councillors and the East Midlands Lord Mayor, a wide range of important issues were discussed, with a particular focus on the humanitarian crises affecting communities around the world and the important role Britain can play in supporting those in need.
The meeting also provided an important platform to highlight the challenges faced by International Medical Graduates (IMGs), including career progression, professional recognition, employment opportunities and the barriers many overseas-trained doctors encounter while contributing to the NHS. NODFA emphasised the importance of creating a fairer, more supportive and inclusive pathway for international doctors who make such a valuable contribution to healthcare in the United Kingdom.
Community concerns were also placed firmly on the agenda, with discussions around how elected representatives, community organisations and professional bodies can work together to address local challenges and improve opportunities for families.
The NHS as a whole was another major area of discussion—exploring how we can collectively help strengthen the NHS, improve patient care, support its dedicated workforce and make healthcare services better and more accessible for the communities they serve.
It was a meeting built on dialogue, collaboration and a shared sense of responsibility. NODFA remains committed to being a strong voice for doctors and communities, while working constructively with political leaders and public representatives to turn concerns into meaningful action.
Together, we can support doctors, strengthen communities, improve the NHS and contribute towards a more compassionate and united society.
